Josiah Solliday House
530 West Market Street
This four-story house was constructed for Josiah Solliday in 1895. The house features a turret, rounded windows, wrap around porch and stained-glass windows which are all features a home designed by architect, Milton Bean.
Mr. Solliday came to Perkasie from Hagersville in 1876 and opened a shoe shop specializing in made-to-measure boots and shoes. He opened Perkasie’s first shoe store in 1878. The brick building next to his house at 528 West Market Street, was constructed by Mr. Solliday for his shoe and boot business.
Josiah Solliday married Catherine Stover on October 12, 1872. He was involved in the community as a charter member of the fire company, a member of Perkasie’s first council, and served 2 terms as Chief Burgess.
Josiah Solliday passed away in 1923 and is buried in St Stephens Cemetery.
