Seltzers Store now Black Cat Collective
521 W. Chestnut Street

Bernard Seltzer opened a store on Walnut Street selling ladies wear and apparel in 1922. The store was located in the Daub Building and it soon became too small. He purchased the stone Heckler home at 121 S. Sixth Street in 1925 and built an addition to the home for the store.
In 1927 the store moved to the new location at Sixth and Walnut Streets. A line of men’s clothing and accessories were added to the sales inventory. Seltzer’s was most known for the sales of Pennridge High School clothing, jackets and especially gym uniforms.
In 1972, Richard “Jock” Seltzer took over ownership of the store. He operated the business until 1983 when he closed the store and sold the property to Walter Bergey.
The building has been used for Design and Print, and a hair salon. Since 2014 it is home to Black Cat Collective which is a co – op of body artists offering unique tattoos and body piercings.
