Reichley Shoe Store

Arch Street Deli
621 Arch Street
In 1916 George Reichley purchased the house of Edwin Wambold and renovated it into a shoe store. Mr. Reichley was a cobbler and was able to hand make custom shoes. When he retired in 1935, he turned the business over to his son Willis and son-in law, Clarence Rosenberger. They operated the store as Reichley and Rosenberger Shoes.
In 1957 when Reichley and Rosenberger closed, Abe Petticoffer moved his shoe store in the building. Petticoffer Shoes remained there until moving to N. Seventh Street in 1971.
Roland Hunsberger then renovated the building relocating his newsstand and “Country Store” there from South Seventh Street. In 1974, Jesse and Joan Burnett purchased the businesses and operated it as J & J News Agency. During the 1980’s the store was converted to a deli and convenience store having several owners including Gwen’s Country Store and K.C Deli. The business is currently Arch Street Deli owned by Dave Myers.
