The Arch Street School was constructed in 1892 to replace the Chestnut Street School. The architect was Milton Bean, and the contractor was Hemsing and Son. Two room additions were constructed in 1895 and in 1901. The school remained in use as an elementary school until the new Perkasie Elementary School opened in February 1963.
In 1965 the Pennridge School District transferred ownership of the school property to Perkasie Borough for use as a firehouse. Demolition of the school building began in 1966 and was completed in 1968.

The construction of the new firehouse cost $300,000 which was underwritten by Perkasie Borough. In April 1971, the Perkasie Fire Company No. 1 moved their firetrucks and ambulance into the new firehouse.
