Warren Bowen opened a bicycle shop at this location in 1908. As automobiles became popular, Bowen transitioned the business to a DeMott, Saxon and later a Chevrolet dealership. Herbert Muth purchased the business in 1917 and two years later added a Studebaker Dealership.
After a fire in 1926 completely destroyed the building, a new brick, concrete, and steel building replaced the original structure. Ralph Schatz rented the former Muth Garage where he started a Ford dealership.
In 1938, North Penn Oil Company was started on this property by Wilmer Detweiler and Lane Bodley. This company delivered Texaco products to homes and service stations. The partners of North Penn Oil Company in 1951 were Wilmer Detweiler, Russell Moyer, and Earl Gehman.
