Ed’s Service Station
20 North 7th Street
Prior to World War II, Granville Myers opened an auto service station on Seventh Street. Initially, there was only a small building serving as an office for selling gasoline. Later, two repair bays were added for auto repairs.
After a few owners, Frank Okomski purchased the business in 1952 and operated it as Frank’s Gulf Service. Under his ownership, Mr. Okomski added a third service bay to the building. After his death in 1971, his wife , Dorothy, operated the service station until 1973 when Brooke Lawrence became the owner. Both Frank Okomski and Brooke Lawrence, also owned the Penn Jersey Auto Supply store located across Seventh Street from the service station. During Brooke Lawrence’s ownership, gasoline brands switched from Gulf to Union 76.
Jim Menzak began his career as an auto mechanic working for Brooke Lawrence. Mr. Menzak acquired the business in 1979, renaming it Jim’s Service Center, which he owned and operated until retiring in 2014.
Ed Myers purchased the business in 2014 and operates it as Ed’s Service Station.
