The house at 151 North Seventh Street was constructed circa 1910 and was at one time used as a tailor shop by J. Conrad Roeder. The three-story brick structure had many alterations over the years including the enclosure of numerous porches.
Joseph and Maggie Steskal purchased the property in 1946 from Calvin Graver who operated a store at this location since 1939. Steskal’s Store was a full-service grocery store consisting of a large room and part of an enclosed porch The store entrance was on Seventh Street. The Steskal’s lived in part of the first and second floors.
Steskal’s Store closed in 1957 due to increased grocery store competition. The Steskal family continued to live at this address for several years and converted the former store into an apartment.
Today, the building continues to be used as three apartment units.
